
GASTONIA, N.C. — A standoff between Gastonia police and a man barricaded inside his home has ended peacefully.
Reports say 55-year-old Ted Wayne Campbell, of 2733 Mary Avenue, surrendered without incident following a three hour standoff with police that began before 6 a.m..
According to police, Mr. Campbell was the suspect in a Larceny of a Motor Vehicle case that was reported this morning. Upon responding to the report, Mr. Campbell threatened to commit suicide by blowing up the residence using natural gas. The Gastonia Police Special Situations Unit and hostage negotiators were called to the scene, and were able to convince Mr. Campbell to surrender peacefully.
The Negotiators stated that Mr. Campbell sought media attention, and would only come out once he was assured that media personnel were present.
Mr. Campbell has been charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.
