CHARLOTTE, NC — A guilty verdict for a Mecklenburg County school nurse supervisor accused in a murder-for-hire plot. A federal jury deliberated for several hours Tuesday night before convicting Fathia Davis.
Prosecutors say she wanted to kill her ex-husband. They say she gave an undercover agent $500 up front, and then $3,500 more when he told her it was done.
Davis testified Tuesday that she did not want him to die, but did want him beaten up.
“You have a clean record,” said Davis’ defense attorney John Snyder. “You’ve never been in trouble with the law before. And now, suddenly, you’re charged with murder-for-hire. How’d you get there? I think that’s a question people are always going to have. We objected, but that’s what appellate courts are for, if we need to address that with appellate court.”
Davis faces at least 10 years in prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
