Β CHARLOTTE, NC — A guilty verdict for a Mecklenburg County school nurse supervisor accused in a murder-for-hire plot. Β A federal jury deliberated for several hours Tuesday night before convicting Fathia Davis. Β

Prosecutors say she wanted to kill her ex-husband. Β They say she gave an undercover agent $500 up front, and then $3,500 more when he told her it was done.

Davis testified Tuesday that she did not want him to die, but did want him beaten up.

“You have a clean record,” said Davis’ defense attorney John Snyder. Β “You’ve never been in trouble with the law before. Β And now, suddenly, you’re charged with murder-for-hire. Β How’d you get there? Β I think that’s a question people are always going to have. Β We objected, but that’s what appellate courts are for, if we need to address that with appellate court.”

Davis faces at least 10 years in prison. Β A sentencing date has not yet been set.
