“I’m Ready To Move Forward”; Former Rock Hill Police Officer Acquitted In Wrongful Arrest Case Now Running For York County Council
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Former Rock Hill police officer, Jonathan Moreno, who was found not guilty in the wrongful arrest of Travis Price is running for a seat on the York County Council District 4. Moreno filed to run on Tuesday, March 22nd.
Moreno was fired from the Rock Hill Police Department in July 2021 after he was accused of wrongfully arresting Travis Price in June 2021. Protests broke out for several days in Rock Hill due to the incident. Moreno was charged with third-degree assault and battery. He was found not guilty in January 2022.
Moreno, 35, filed as Republican Tuesday morning to run in the election in November according to South Carolina Votes website.
Moreno says he’s been thinking about a possible political run since last fall.
“I know a lot of people in the community who know me from before that incident. I served our community for ten and a half years and I truly believe I can overcome this and move forward,” says Moreno.
Moreno says he wants to restore trust within his community, and serve as a mentor for kids.
“So, if voters are on the fence, just keep watching, cause I’m definitely going to show you that I’m full of something way better than what you know me as,” he says.
Moreno will be running against the current District 4 member, Bump Roddey. The election is set for November 8.
