CHARLOTTE, NC — Dan Clodfelter is an attorney with three decades of experience in North Carolina and Charlotte politics. Β Clodfelter is serving his eighth term in the State Senate. Β He has represented the 37th district, which includes parts of Mecklenburg county, since 1999. Β He was Chairman of the Finance Committee and, before that, he served on the Charlotte City Council representing East Charlotte from 1987 to 1993. Β
Clodfelter graduated from Davidson College, then went to Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. Β He has worked in private practice at Moore and Van Allen in Charlotte since 1978.
Governor Pat McCrory served on City Council with Clodfelter. Β In a statement Monday, the Governor tells WCCB Charlotte, “It’s time to restore the public’s trust by serving the city with the highest of ethical standards.”
Ex-Mayor Patrick Cannon faces up to 50 years in prison if he’s convicted of federal corruption charges. Β The case could go to a federal grand jury this month. Β The FBI arrested Cannon on March 26. Β He’s charged with extortion, bribery, and wire fraud. Β The 42-page federal criminal complaint accuses Cannon of using his position to push through development projects. Β He’s also accused of accepting bribes totaling more than $48,000 from undercover agents five times over the course of a four-year investigation.
