Jerry Richardson, the owner of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, has donated $100,000 to the families of the Charleston shooting to help cover burial costs of the victims. Richardson sent a letter to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund dated Friday along with a check for $100,000. Richardson asks in the letter that $10,000 go to each of the nine families of the victims and $10,000 for a memorial at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church honoring the memory of those killed in the shooting on Wednesday.

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) β€” Ryan Reed took the lead on the 31st lap and held it the rest of the way in the 100-lap ARCA Series race on Saturday night at Chicagoland Speedway. Reed, one of four drivers participating in a NASCAR Xfinity Series race later Saturday, started 28th after a crash in qualifying. But he drove his repaired Ford past Will Kimmel in the first turn on a restart and went on to the victory. Enfinger will retain the series lead over Tom Hessert, who finished 10th for his worst finish in five races.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β€” South Carolina is adding North Carolina transfer Allisha Gray and giving coach Dawn Staley a contract extension. The school announced Friday that Gray has signed a scholarship agreement with the Gamecocks. The Tar Heels’ leading scorer and all-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team performer will have two years of eligibility remaining after she sits out this season under transfer rules.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” General manager Rich Cho says while the Charlotte Hornets need a perimeter shooter, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee they’ll take one with the ninth pick in next week’s NBA draft. Cho says the Hornets plan to draft the best player available regardless of position.
