CMPD Swears in 28 New Officers

Β

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is 28 officers stronger.Β Chief Kerr Putney says even more officers are needed to stop a rise of violent crime.

This comes just days after Charlotte saw its 56th homicide this year.Β Putney says that Charlotte’s population is growing, but the department can’t keep up.

“The one thing that’s been statistically proven across the country, if you add additional cops you can impact the crime rate,” said Chief Putney.

CMPD will soon grow again. Fifty-twoΒ trainees started the police academy two weeks ago.
