BEREA, Ohio (AP) β€” Browns coach Mike Pettine insists his team is making improvements and he’s not planning any major changes to a disappointing defense.

San Diego rolled up 438 yards in Sunday’s 30-27 win over the Browns, who committed 12 penalties, including an offside on the final timed play, giving the Chargers a second chance to make a game-winning field goal.

Cleveland gave up 468 yards last week and missed a slew of tackles against Oakland.

Pettine had a positive meeting with his players and believes the Browns are making positive strides. He said the team is “not going to hit the panic button” after four games.

Pettine says he doesn’t feel the need to get more involved with Cleveland’s defense and expressed faith in coordinator Jim O’Neil.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer returned to the team Monday after serving a four-game suspension for texting to the sideline last season.
