NEW YORK (AP) β The playoffs begin tonight in baseball with the American League wild card game. In New York, the Yankees are playing host to the Houston Astros, one of the most surprising teams of the 2015 season. The clubs met seven times during the season with the Astros winning four of the games. The pitching matchup has 20-game winner Dallas Keuchel (KY’-kehl) going for the Astros against 12-game winner Masahiro Tanaka.
PITTSBURGH (AP) β The National League wild card game is tomorrow night in Pittsburgh as the Pirates entertain the Cubs. Fans will see a great pitching matchup as 22-game winner Jake Arrieta (ehr-ee-ET’-uh) gets the ball for the Cubs against 19-game winner Gerrit Cole.
WASHINGTON (AP) β The Washington Nationals are looking for a new manager. As many expected Matt Williams was fired yesterday after a very disappointing season. He held the job for two seasons and was the National League Manager of the Year in 2014.
SEATTLE (AP) β In case you missed the NFL game last night, the Seahawks held off the Lions 13-10. The Lions were poised to take the lead with under two minutes left when Kam Chancellor punched the ball free from Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson at the Seattle 1 to secure the Seahawks’ second straight win since an 0-2 start.
MIAMI (AP) β Miami’s Dolphins dumped coach Joe Philbin. He was fired yesterday a day after the team lost in London to the Jets. He had a record of 24-28 in three-plus seasons.
