Woman Suing COACH, Says She Was Fired Because Of Weight

DETROIT, M.I. — A woman is suing COACH after she says she was fired because of her weight, according to WXYZ in Detroit.

Elizabeth DeLorean says she was hired in June of 2002, and in 2007 was promoted to Store Manager. A court complaint states DeLorean started gaining weight in 2010 and eventually gained over 100 pounds.

DeLorean was fired in June 2013, according to the complaint. When asked if her weight was the reason why she was fired, the complaint she filed states that it was a factor, but not the official reason that was given.

The complaint she filed says COACH representatives allegedly encouraged DeLorean to join “Weight Watchers,” and watch shows like “The Biggest Loser.”

The two-count complaint alleges Weight Discrimination and Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress.
