COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) β€” Ohio State, the top team in The Associated Press poll, is home this afternoon to the Huskies of Northern Illinois. This is another Big-Ten versus Mid-American Conference matchup and one never knows how those will turn out. Many a Big-Ten team has been upset in the early going of a season by teams from the MAC.

UNDATED (AP) β€” There are two SEC games today featuring highly ranked schools. This afternoon 13th-ranked LSU is home to No. 18 Auburn while tonight second-ranked Alabama is hosting No. 15 Mississippi. Also this afternoon, in a non-SEC game, eighth-ranked Notre Dame is home to No. 14 Georgia Tech.

NEW YORK (AP) β€” The New York Subway Series continues this afternoon as the Mets play host to the Yankees. The Mets won the opening game of the weekend series last night, dropping the Yankees 4 Β½ games back of the Blue Jays in the American League East. The Mets meanwhile have an eight-game advantage over Washington in the NL East.

SINGAPORE (AP) β€” Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel has won the pole for tomorrow’s Singapore Grand Prix. The pole by Vettel prevents Lewis Hamilton from equaling Ayrton Senna’s (AY’-err-ton SEH’-nuhz) record of eight straight poles across the 1988 and 1989 seasons. Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo (rih-KAR’-doh) was the second-fastest qualifier.

UNDATED (AP) β€” Tiger Woods has undergone a second microdiscectomy (MY’-kroh-dihs-KEHK’-toh-mee) surgery on his back. The former world No. 1 made the announcement on his website. He pulled out of three events he planned to play this year and isn’t expected to return to the tour until January at the earliest.
