GASTONIA, N.C.– A woman died after an early morning wreck in Gastonia, according to the Gastonia Police Department.
Police responded to the wreck on East Garrison Boulevard near Peachtree Street around 12:16 a.m. Saturday.
They say that Norman Dunaway Jr., 59, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup westbound when he crossed the center line and struck a 1993 Chevrolet Caviler driven by Jonny Worthy, 59.
The Gastonia Fire Department extricated Worthy from her vehicle. Officials say she died from her injuries later at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
Dunaway Jr. was charged with driving while impaired.
Police say alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors.
