Police: Man shot and killed in South Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation in the 5500 block of Lantana Avenue after one person was shot and killed Saturday night.

Police say the call for service came in at 7:46 p.m. Saturday.  When they arrived they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The man was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic.

Police say that preliminary information and evidence gathered on scene indicates that the victim and the shooting subject knew each other.  The subject in the shooting has been detained and is currently being interviewed by detectives.

Police say they responded to the same residence on Friday concerning a domestic disturbance involving the deceased.  They say no crime had been committed at that time and officers were advised that their assistance was not needed any further.

Police are canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
