Apartment Fire Causes $50,000 In Damages

UPDATE: Investigators say the fire this morning at Ashford Green Apartments was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

Officials have estimated the damages around $50,000.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte Fire Department responded to a three story apartment fire just after 2:30 this morning.

Fire crews arrived to see heavy flames coming from the Ashford Green Apartments on Barton Creek Drive. The fire started on the balcony of one of the apartments. It took crews about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, and no injuries were reported.

Six people were displaced as a result of the fire.

Officials are still working to determine what caused the fire.
