NEW YORK (AP) β€” Elton John says changes in this country over the past year have positively affected the LGBT community, including the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality. But he says “there’s more history to be made” in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

John made his remarks at “An Enduring Vision: A Benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” Monday night in New York.

To rousing applause, John told the crowd that each person with HIV/AIDS is “an individual that deserves dignity.”

Before the event, John and husband David Furnish spoke candidly about the organization’s role in the fight against the disease and strides being made in prevention.

They also talked about the recording artist’s upcoming album. John hinted he’s writing a new Broadway musical.
