LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detectives have charged a man who is accused of neglecting his bedridden wife for about nine months.
Bobby Armstrong, 72, is charged with one felony count of Neglect of a Disabled/Elderly Person with Serious Injury.
Police say Armstrong failed to provide medical care and hygienic care to his wife, Janet Armstrong, 72. She was forced to lie in her own excrement, had bed sores on her body, and had a deep open leg wound that was covered with maggots.
EMS went to the scene where they treated the patient then transferred her to Presbyterian Huntersville. She was treated there then transferred to Charlotte where she passed away on September 19th.
Captain Johnson said, “In my 25 years in law enforcement this is the worst case of neglect I have seen. The conditions this person was living in were deplorable at best.”
Mr. Armstrong was arrested and placed under a $100,000.00 unsecured bond.
