SYDNEY (AP) β€” Chris Brown’s plans to tour Down Under are in jeopardy after the Australian government formally warned the troubled R&B singer that he is likely to be refused a visa because of his criminal conviction for assaulting pop star Rihanna.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said on Sunday that the government issued Brown a “notice of intention to consider refusal.” It gives Brown 28 days to present evidence as to why he should be allowed to enter Australia.

The warning comes just days after the former Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash urged Dutton to refuse the 26-year-old American a visa on character grounds. Cash said people who commit domestic violence can’t expect to be accepted by Australia.

Britain, Canada and New Zealand have also refused to give Brown visas.
