Hockey is back and with a bang!! Β Thousands of fans filled the Bojangles coliseum in Charlotte tonight for the Checkers first home game.
Tailgaters began lining up at 3 o’clock this afternoon, and we were there as fans celebrated the return of hockey to the Queen city!
“This is a big deal to be here, I got chills pulling in the parking lot,” says one fan.

As, thousands of eager fans entered the Bojangles coliseum tonight.

“I just like the game I like when they make a goal,” says Corbin Corum.

They’re here to see the Charlotte Checkers hockey team play their first home game inside the newly renovated coliseum.

The 16-million dollar coliseum renovation project includes a new scoreboard, plastic seats and concession stands.

“It means a lot for the city of Charlotte shows everybody coming together supporting the checkers. They weren’t having a lot of turnout downtown but its packed its awesome,” says Lisa Gee.

“How great is it to have a venue where the fans want to come out spend there money, we’re employed, fans having a great time everybody bumping up Charlotte economy,” says Erin Lyjack.
