PITTSBURGH (AP) β The Cardinals came claim their third straight NL Central title tonight with a win over the second -place Pirates. St. Louis turns to Michael Wacha to help wrap it up. He’s 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in six games against Pittsburgh.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β Major-league strikeout leader Clayton Kershaw will try to help pitch the Dodgers to a third straight NL West title when they visit San Francisco tonight. He’ll be opposed by Madison Bumgarner who is trying to become the Giants first 19-game winner in 18 years.
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) β A private memorial service will be held for Hall of Famer Yogi Berra today. The former Yankees great died last week at age 90. The Yankees plan to broadcast the service live on its YES Network. New Jersey governor Chris Christie has called for flags on government building to fly at half-staff in Berra’s honor.
WUHAN, China (AP) β Venus Williams has reached a career milestone with the 700th match victory of her career. The seven-time major champion reached the mark with a 6-4, 6-3 win over German qualifier Julia Goerges in the second round of Wuhan Open.
