Police Release More Details On West Charlotte Officer-Involved Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD released the name of the man killed by police and the name of the officer injured in a west Charlotte shooting.

Investigators say police were searching for a murder suspect, Germonta Wallace, who was wanted for the murder of Norris Martin that occurred on December 30th.

As officers approached a home on Watson Drive, police say Wallace fired a weapon at officers, striking Officer Jessica Zinobile in the ankle.

Officers returned fire, killing Wallace.  Detectives say Marquez Breon Springs-Owens was with Wallace during the shooting and ran into a nearby home.

He later surrender to police following a standoff with the SWAT team.  Police have charged Owens with murder, robbery, conspiracy, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

As standard procedure with officer involved shootings, CMPD placed the following officers paid on administrative leave:

· Joshua Allman, hired on September 25, 2006, assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

· Tim Kiefer, hired on January 22, 2007, assigned to the K9 Unit.

· David Michaud, hired on September 21, 1994, assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

· Vaughn Pauls, hired on August 18, 1999, assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

· Donald Penix, hired on July 30, 1997, assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

· Eric Peterson, hired on May 20, 1987, assigned to the Special Operations Division.

· Jeremy Towe, hired on September 21, 2001, assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

· Jessica Zinobile, hired on September 27, 2004, assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.
