CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Residents living in Mecklenburg County must pay their personal property tax payments by January 5th to avoid interest charges.
Property owners whose payments are received or postmarked after January 5th will be charged two percent interest for the month of January and an additional three-quarters of one percent every money thereafter until paid.
Five ways to pay your taxes:
• By Internet: Visit paytax.charmeck.org for a credit card, debit card or eCheck payment.*
• By phone: Dial toll-free 1-800-994-1026 for a credit card, debit card or eCheck payment.*
• By mail: Mail a check or money order and payment stub using the return envelope that accompanied the tax bill.
• In person: Pay at the Tax Collector’s office located in the Robert L. “Bob” Walton Plaza, 700 East Stonewall Street, Charlotte NC, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Only cash, money order, or check payments are accepted. Make checks payable to the Mecklenburg County Tax Collector.
• Online Banking: Payments are sent from your bank. A payment may take up to four business days, after it has been authorized, before it is applied to the tax bill. The entire 24-digit tax bill number must be entered in the online bill pay account number field to ensure proper payment posting to the tax bill. The payment will be rejected and returned to the financial institution if the tax bill number is missing or incorrect. Tax bill numbers from previous payments must be deleted and replaced with a current tax bill number for each payment. Note: This payment option is not recommended for tax payments. Any interest accrued due to a rejected payment cannot be removed from the tax bill.
*A service fee of 2.35 percent or a minimum of $1.95 is charged for credit card or debit card payments. There is no service fee for eCheck payments.
