WCCB Charlotte Finds Parking Options Before Playoffs

CHARLOTTE, NC — Tens of thousands of people will pack Uptown Sunday for the Panthers game. Add to that a large cheerleading competition, and people are expecting a parking headache.

“Just be prepared!” said Debra Anthony.

Panthers fans like Anthony don’t even attempt it.

It can be intimidating on game day, surrounded by what seems like a sea of tow away zones. So WCCB Charlotte hit the road to figure it out for you.

“There are more than 50,000 parking spaces,” said Adam Rhew.

Rhew is the Spokesperson for Center City Partners, and they know the ins and outs of parking in Uptown. Rhew says study the interactive parking map on their website before heading into the city.

“Have a first choice. Have a second choice. Know where you’re backup options will be if the lot that you’d like to park in is full,” said Rhew. If you do that, be ready to sit in traffic.

WCCB Charlotte drove past pay lots that will cost you $5 now, but with an estimated 100,000 people in Uptown for the game and other events, somebody is gonna have to cough up the cash.

Private companies often raise that price, and lots are full hours before kickoff.

“People can take the light rail,” said Rhew. “Ride the blue line in from South Charlotte. There are a number of park and ride lots where you can park for free.”
