Gaston Co. Sheriff, Chief Deputy Involved In Crash

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — The Gaston County sheriff and chief deputy were involved in a crash near Interstate 85 on Thursday.

Sheriff Alan Cloninger and Chief Deputy Kim Johnson were sitting at a red light on Bessemer City Road near I-85 around 2:30 p.m. when Kuzundra Mance, 53, of Gastonia, hit the back of the Charger.

Both the sheriff and chief deputy were taken to the hospital and checked out for minor injuries. Mance was evaluated by Gaston Emergency Medical Services and was not transported to the hospital.

Mance has been charged with DWI and failure to reduce speed, and has been booked into the Gaston County Jail with a $1,000 secured bond.
