Pfeiffer Univ. Mourns Salisbury Teen Killed

SALISBURY, NC — “It really is just a shock,” said Pfeiffer University freshman Kaylin Brewer.

Kaylin Brewer got to know 19-year-old Talisha Crowder since they both lived in the freshman dorms at Pfeiffer University.

“I would just ask how her day was and how she’s been. She was kinda quiet, but she was still a nice girl and was always good to see her,” said Brewer.

Salisbury police found Crowder shot to death inside a 1991 Honda Accord they were looking for in connection to another case. Cynthia Hernandez lives on East Long Street where police found the car. She hadn’t seen the vehicle before, and says she saw Crowder inside before police came, but had no idea she was dead. Crowder’s family is asking for privacy. University officials say they are mourning an essential part of their campus. She was on Pfeiffer’s dance team and worked in the Admissions Office.

“I know she had big plans and big dreams, I know she was considering pre-med; I know there was some conversation about criminal justice,” said Pfeiffer University Village Church Pastor Sherri Barnes.

Friends are leaving messages at an on-campus memorial for a woman whose life ended far too soon.

“It’s just crazy. I would never have thought something would happen like that,” said senior Lashonda Womack, who worked in Admissions with Crowder.

University officials say the family has expressed a need for financial help with funeral arrangements. They say they can take in donations through their on-campus ministries and make sure it all gets to the family for help.
