CHARLOTTE, NC — One person is dead and four people, including a baby, are in the hospital after an accident Tuesday evening.
CMPD and Huntersville Police responded to an accident around 7:26 yesterday evening that happened on NC Highway 73 west of McGuire Nuclear Station. Police say the driver of a Toyota Scion crossed the center lane after losing control and hit a pick-up truck.
Inside the Scion Medic found the passenger, 19-year-old McKinsey Pleasants, dead from injuries. Also in the car were the driver, 20-year-old Melissa Clark, and a 16-month-old child. Officials say Clark suffered life-threatening injuries, but the child’s injuries were non-life threatening. Both were taken by medic to CMC.
The driver of the pick-up, 72-year-old Donna Smith, and her passenger, 65-year-old Josephine Brown, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were also taken to CMC.
Officials say all parties were wearing seat belts and the child was properly restrained.
Investigators say alcohol did not play a factor in the crash, but do believe speed was involved on the part of Clark.
The investigation is ongoing.
