Monroe Police Officer Charged With DWI

MONROE, NC — An officer with the Monroe Police Department was arrested Thursday evening and charged with DWI.Darren NashPolice say they responded to a possible medical call around 6:50pm yesterday evening on 2200 W. Roosevelt Blvd. for a man in a vehicle. There officers found 34-year-old Darren Nash, a seven year veteran with Monroe PD, impaired behind the wheel.

Nash was taken to Union County Jail where he refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was charged with misdemeanor DWI, and released under a written promise to appear in court on May 11.

Officer Nash has been placed on unpaid administrative leave while an internal investigation is performed.

Monroe Police Chief Bryan Gilliard issued the following statement on the matter:

“As police officers, we are all human, but we are held to higher standards than those we serve. This is an unfortunate incident that is not a direct reflection of our department and the level of service we provide. We will not treat this investigation any differently and are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
