MATTHEWS, N.C. — Police are investigating after a daycare bus overturned in Matthews, sending two people to the hospital.

The accident happened shortly after 3:00 pm on the 10600 block of Monroe Road, shutting down the road for more than an hour.
A police officer on the scene told WCCB that a white car came out of the QT gas station and hit the rear wheel of the bus, sending the bus on its side. A total of 8 students from the Matthews Country Day Child Development Center along with the bus driver were aboard.
One of the day care students and a driver from another vehicle were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police say the driver and the students were wearing seat belts, which may have helped keep injuries to a minimum.
Monroe Road reopened at 4:15 pm.
