City Preparing for Big Crowds in Uptown for Super Bowl
CHARLOTTE, NC – The city is preparing for any celebrations that might break out in Uptown Sunday night.
“Hopefully, hopefully it gets real crazy in Charlotte,” says Statesville resident Elmo Velasco.
CDOT will coordinate with CMPD to begin closing down roads if crowds begin to form. The city will also be staffing their traffic management center Sunday night.
“It’s going to be crazy. I’m kinda glad we’re stay home because I bet it’s going to be pandemonium all over the city, but it’s going to be really exciting,” says Southwest Charlotte resident Bethany Wiggins.
Saturday, we saw crews have already placed several no parking signs around the stadium. There are also barriers ready to be put up for crowd control.
And some fans tell us they’re going the extra mile to celebrate. Luke and Georgi Sipe flew in from Phoenix to watch the game with family in Charlotte.
“Couldn’t afford the Super Bowl. But this is the next best thing,” Luke Sipe says.
If you are planning to come Uptown tomorrow, the city recommends using the light rail. There will be an increased number of trains and it will run until 12:30am.
