MINT HILL, NC– Police have received multiple reports of a black bear sighting in the Mint Hill area.
Authorities have confirmed the bear sighting after police located the animal along Bartlett Road parallel to I-485.
Officers say they were only able to get within 100 feet of the animal before it started to run in the opposite direction.
Mint Hill police have contacted North Carolina Wildlife Resources, who have responded, residents are told to keep all food items inside and make sure your trash lids are tightly secured.
Wildlife Resources have also warned people to keep their pets indoors or in a secured fenced yard.
If you see the bear, police say call 911 immediately to advise them of the location.
