MATHEWS, N.C.–“I think the most important thing of why I made the choice to live where I live, is because of the school,” says Adrienne Lee.
Lee, a CMS parent joined hundreds inside Carmel Baptist church.
Many wearing shirts and holding signs saying they support keeping their kids in neighborhood schools.
“People from all over Charlotte say it should be a parent’s choice if they elect to bus their child to another school, says Boe Clark.
And its busing kids to other neighborhoods that has many parents here against Student Assignment.
CMS board member Paul Bailey moderated the event and spoke against busing.
More than 12,000 people have filled out CMS’s Student Assignment survey, some here felt the survey wasn’t balanced so parents were given a new one Tuesday.
“My committee of parents put the questions together…so I wanted them to put their issues on the table and be able discuss those and respond so we can see what people think,” says CMS board member Bailey.
CMS Board member Mary McCray says it’s important to get everyone’s input.
“It’s imperative that we be transparent and know that we can’t do everything that everybody wants us to do, but we can at least do as much as we can,” says CMS board chair Mary McCray.
