CMPD To Host Teen Dating Violence Awareness Events

CHARLOTTE, NC– February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and CMPD is spreading awareness about community support services.

According to statistics collected by the National Domestic Violence Hotline

  • One in three adolescents in the U.S is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
  • Girls between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence which is almost triple the national average.
  • 81% of parents say believe dating violence is not a issue.
  • Nearly 1.5 million high school students experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year.

On February 26, 2015, members of the CMPD DV Unit, Community Support Services, and Safe Alliance will assist with a High School Tour to the following schools to continue to raise awareness of teen dating violence issues:

3.Β  Northeast Middle School

4.Β  Oaklawn Language Academy

5.Β  Independence High School

6.Β  Olympic High School

7.Β  Mallard Creek High School
