Son Denied Bond in Mother’s Murder Case
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Outside a well-kept south Charlotte town home hangs a small “welcome friends” sign, along with motion-activated flood lights. A security system. Even a CMPD sticker on the window. Irwin Feldman and his wife Judith appear to be concerned with safety and security. Ironic, given that Irwin Feldman is now charged with the brutal murder of his 82-year-old mother, Ina Feldman.
Irwin’sΒ wife Judith has also been questioned by police, but not charged. If she was home Friday, she didn’t answer the door when WCCB News @ Ten anchor Morgan Fogarty rang the bell.
Her husband’s arrest comes two years after he called 911, claiming to have found his mom dead in her town home, just around the corner from his. He can be heard telling the dispatcher, “There’s blood all over her hair and it looks like she got hit in the head with something. There’s blood all over and she’s in her nightgown, so…”
Ina Feldman was also wearing earrings, a necklace and a bracelet when she was killed. The medical examiner ruled her cause of death as strangulation, but Ina’s head and face were also badly beaten.
Was money the motive for the murder? Police haven’t said yet. But we are learning more about Irwin Feldman. We know he worked in finances at JLL, an investment management company in SouthPark.
Ina’s got another son. Fogarty spoke to his wife on the phone; she told her her family doesn’t have any comments on Irwin’s arrest. We also learned that public defender Susan Weigand is Feldman’s attorney. When we reached her by phone, she told us, “I’m not going to discuss that with you,” before hanging up.
58-year-old Irwin Feldman will be back in court on March 9 for another bond hearing.
