Police Arrest Three Men After Uptown Shooting Involving AK-47
CHARLOTTE, NC – Uptown Charlotte neighbors were stunned to learn an AK-47 was one of the weapons used in an early morning shooting outside their condo building.
“I don’t think anyone should be, like besides the military, should have guns like that. But that’s just me, but that’s just insane,” says Uptown Charlotte resident Drew Glenn.
Investigators say two cars and several windows at the Hyatt Place Hotel and Skye Condominiums were hit by 40 to 50 bullets a little before 5:00 am Sunday.
Soon after the shooting, police arrested 32-year-old Howard Wright, 28-year-old Kevin Thompson, and 34-year-old Dereke Bolton in a car on West 5th Street.
In addition to the AK-47, the men had several other weapons.
All three are charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm in city limits.
The shooting – a concern for visitors in town for CIAA weekend.
Jamar Davis says he’s just glad it wasn’t worse.
“I’m glad. I can just thank God, you know, nobody was hurt,” Davis says.
