CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers release defensive lineman Dwan Edwards.

Edwards was a 12-year veteran who played for the Panthers for the past four seasons.  The Panthers also released defensive end Charles Johnson earlier in the day Thursday.

“Dwan represents what we look for in defensive tackles,” general manager Dave Gettleman said. “He was smart, tough, played with discipline and was team-oriented. His contributions played a key role in what we are building here and his leadership will be missed. We wish him the best.”

Edwards played in 12 games for the Panthers last season.  He had 13 tackles and one sack in the regular season.
