MONROE, N.C. — A psychologist at Monroe Middle School has been accused of assaulting a student.

On Thursday at 12:35 p.m., the Monroe Police Department responded to a report of an assault that occurred at Monroe Middle School.
Officers were informed that a 14-year-old juvenile student was assaulted by a staff member of the school.
After a thorough investigation by the Police Department, Union County Public Schools, and the Union County District Attorney’s Office, a warrant was issued for Dayle Rust II, 53, for simple assault.
Rust, who is a school psychologist with the Union County Public School System, turned himself in once he learned there were charges pending. Officials say he has been suspended with pay during this time.
