National Guardsmen Catch a Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Girl
Tonight a group of North Carolina National Guardsmen are being hailed as heroes.
And not for their work in the Army, but for their work saving a girl who was being attacked.
“It was a scared scream, you could tell that it was a scared scream, somebody was in danger,” says N.C. National Guardsmen Specialist, Jonathan Griswold.
The screams were coming from an unidentified juvenile female. Who was walking on West Gold Street in Kings Mountain, Sunday, when a man attacked her from behind.
“I take a look around the corner and I see a male on top of the female,” says Griswold.
Sergeant Terry Neal and Specialist Jonathan Griswold — just two of the five North Carolina National Guardsmen outside of their armory at the time of the attack, able to jump into action to help the victim.
“My immediate reaction was to run, so I ran over there and I’m over there I see him smack her,” says Griswold.
“The two guardsmen chased down the suspect, 19-year-old Kyle Moore.
Sergeant Neal’s work as a highway patrolman kicked in as he detained Moore, who he said began crying.
“I said what’s going on? He said I can’t fight the urge, I said go ahead and put your hands behind your back,” says Sergeant. Neal.
Kings Mountain Police arrested Moore on the scene and charged him with second degree sexual offense and sexual battery.
“Thank God it didn’t go as far as it could’ve, we’re just grateful keeping the young girl in our prayers. Hopefully she makes a full mental recovery out of this because it’s going to play in her mind forever,” says Sergeant. Neal
