Deputies And Suspect Identified In Fatal Anson Co. Shooting

ANSON COUNTY, NC — State investigators have released the names of the deputies and suspect involved in Wednesday night’s fatal deputy involved shooting.

The SBI was called in to assist in the investigation. They say 40-year-old Dennis Penny was shot and killed after exchanging gunfire with Anson County Deputies J. Martin and K. Beam.

Martin and Beam had been called out to the area of Blewett Falls Road in Lilesville to check on the welfare of Penny’s girlfriend when they encountered him.

Two guns were recovered from the scene and have been sent off to the State Crime Lab to be analyzed.

We do not yet know the status of the deputies involved. This is an ongoing investigation.
