Man Charged After Attempted Carjacking

CATAWBA COUNTY, N. C. — Officials have charged the man who tried to carjack a woman in Catawba County Friday morning.

On Friday around 7:30 a.m., deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to an attempted carjacking in the 2100 block of 25th St. Dr. NE, Hickory.

The victim, Mee Chang, stated that she was backing out of her driveway, when a white male approached the driver side of the car and brandished a black handgun.  The man then attempted to open the car door, but Chang was able to back out and drive up the street to summon help.

At about 8:33 a.m., deputies located and arrested 22-year-old Wesley Wright.

Wright has been charged with felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. He is currently confined in the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $50,000.00 bond.
