UPDATE: Police say both dogs involved in the fatal attack have been euthanized. The investigation is now closed and no charges were filed in the case.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 86-year-old woman has died after being attacked by dogs in south Charlotte.
The incident happened around 1:30pm on Luke Crossing Drive near The Arboretum Shopping Center while the woman was visiting her family. CMPD says the two dogs involved in the incident belonged to a family member.
The victim has been identified as Bessie Flowers. Her family has been notified of her death.
Animal Care & Control Officers seized the two dogs, who will be held for a 10 day quarantine and continue to be held for the investigation. The dogs are both American Pit Bull Terriers who were properly licensed and vaccinated.
Animal AC&C Officers say they responded to one previous call at this address in 2013 in reference to a complaint of two aggressive animals.
