Piper Glen Residents Voice Concerns to City Council Over Cell Towers in Their Neighborhood
The company Crown Castle says they have been working with the Piper Glen neighborhoods and officials since spring of last year.
And have had several meetings with residents about their plans.
Tonight those upset over the new cell towers spoke directly to WCCB News about their concerns.
Residents in Piper Glen never thought their beautiful subdivision would be home to new cellular towers.
“I didn’t understand why they would want to put them here? Β Because I don’t have any issues with my cell service , it’s supposed to be 4 towers and it’s going to take away from the look in our community,” says Cheryl Wright.
Dozens of residents came to Monday’s City Council meeting to voice their concerns and ask council members to put an end to the project.
“The notion that a company can trespass in our community and use loopholes assigned for regulated utilities to get this approved is inconsistent with our basic rights as American citizens,” says Mellissa Dobrovolski.
Crown Castle provides infrastructure for all the major wireless carriers and says putting up 4 cell phone nodes in the Piper Glen subdivision would enhance cell coverage for customers.
“There are so many known health effects with respects to these cell phone towers and the radiation they omit and we’re not talking about them putting them in any common areas, we’re talking about putting them directly in front of people homes,” says Ali Martinez.
The company rep told me the nodes will be about 28 feet in height.
“Whether it’s 25 feet or 10 feet anything that comes onto our property and our neighborhood is going to look completely different from everything else,” says Martinez.
Crown Castle Government Relations Manager Ann Brooks sent this response, saying.
“We use great care when considering where to place facilities in the public right of way and many factors are involved in the design, engineering and construction of our networks.”
City Council member Ed Driggs is holding a meeting with C DOT Thursday at 6:30 PM at their clubhouse to discuss alternatives and options for residents who live there.
