FORT MILL, SC — Investigators say two Fort Mill students who claimed someone tried to kidnap them reportedly made the story up.
Pleasant Knoll Elementary School was placed on lockdown last week while police and deputies searched for a man who reportedly tried to abduct two children early Monday morning.
It was first reported that the attempted abductions took place around 7:45am Monday morning on Whitley Road near Pleasant Road.
The two boys, ages 7 and 11, told detectives they were walking to school on Whitley Road when a black male wearing a dark grey hoodie and black pants walked out of the woods towards them. The 11-year-old also said the man was holding a knife in one hand, pliers in the other, and told them to come here. The two boys allegedly ran from the man and, when they realized they were not being chased, went back home to alert their parents.
After hours of investigating, detectives determined the boys made up the story so they could skip school for the day. Deputies say the boys confessed to making up the story as well.
The York County Sheriff’s Office searched the area with K-9 units, and Fort Mill Police also assisted with patrols.
