ROCK HILL, SC — A Rock Hill woman is facing animal cruelty charges after police say she left a puppy inside of her storage unit overnight.
Officers were called to Cherry Road Self Storage on Hearn Street Thursday afternoon after the manager reported hearing a dog barking inside one of the storage units.
When police arrived they found a small black puppy that had been placed in a carrier and left inside the unit. Officers say the bowl inside the crate was dry and empty and the dog appeared to be malnourished.
The unit’s renter, 23-year-old Britney Biegel, was contacted by phone and told police that she had put the dog in the unit Wednesday. She was going to pick the dog back up when she moved into her new apartment the following day.
After getting a search warrant for the unit a member of York County Animal Control came out and took the dog while Rock Hill PD investigators took photos of the living conditions.
Biegel was arrested at her job and charged with cruelty to animals.
