Search for Shooter After 2nd Goose is Shot with Arrow

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A female goose at Park Road Park in south Charlotte was found Β with an arrow through her body this weekend. Β Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care and Control division contacted Carolina Waterfowl Rescue (CWR)Β for assistance.

The arrow pierced the goose’s neck and she is being treated for a serious infection at the wound site, says CWR director Jennifer Gordon.Β

According to a press release from CWR, the 3-year-old bird was rescued Saturday, several months after officials reportedly started getting calls about the goose being sighted at a pond off East Barden Street behind Sunrise Senior Living on Providence Road. Β CWR says it rescued another goose shot by an arrow from the same pond in April 2012.

CWR says officials suspect the shooter lives in the area.Β

A 5-year-old female goose is also recovering at CWR, after being rescued in Fayetteville late last week. Β This bird had an arrow through the flesh of her wing, according to CWR.Β
