CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Leaf season is in full swing, and with temperatures dropping this week, more leaves will being to fall. The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services wants to ensure that residents know how to properly prepare leaves for collection.
Residents must use paper yard waste bags or reusable personal containers weighing no more than 75 pounds when preparing leaves and grass clippings for yard waste collection. Properly prepared yard waste is collected from the curb once a week on your scheduled collection day.
“As the leaves in the Queen City begin to fall, our Solid Waste Services’ crews rise to the collection challenge,” said Deputy Director of Solid Waste Services Eric DeLaPena. “We want to educate residents on the correct preparation procedures to ensure our teams can provide the absolute best service possible on day of collection.”
Debris in plastic bags will NOT be collected. The city’s paper bag mandate began over two years ago in order to reduce negative environmental impacts and improve operational efficiency.
Residents can pick up paper bags at 1200 Otts St. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., while supplies last.
