ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A former Tennessee corrections officer has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for traveling across state lines into North Carolina to engage in sexual activities with a minor, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
John Allen Biggins, 42, began communicating with undercover agents in June of 2022, expressing his interest in engaging in illicit sexual activities with a minor female child.
A month later on July 8, 2022, Biggins traveled from his home in Surgoinsville, Tennessee to North Carolina with the intention of engaging in sexual acts with a female minor. The undercover agents instantly arrested him.
While law enforcement arrested Biggins, they found him to be in possession of child pornography images and videos, police equipment and a personally owned Glock 17 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
At the time, Biggins was employed by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer. The sheriff’s office immediately terminated him upon learning this information.
Biggins pleaded guilty to traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor back in February of 2023. He was sentenced on Thursday, November 2nd.
Following his prison sentence, Biggins will have a lifetime of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
