Local Non-Profit Asking For Help After Vans Vandalized, Tools Stolen

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —Leaders from Rebuilding Together Greater Charlotte said they believe someone in a black car caught on surveillance video broke into two of their service vans and stole construction equipment and tools.

“They broke into our vehicle and they broke windows on our work vans that we use to carry tools and materials to our projects and they also broke the latch of our cargo trailer,” Rebuilding Together Greater Charlotte Executive director Beth Morrison said.Β

The vandalism and theft comes just a year after one of their tractor trailers was stolen on Christmas Day in 2022.Β

The organization repairs homes for low income families in the Charlotte area and leaders said the theft is making it harder for them to help families in need.Β

“So having to take the time out of your schedule to get the glass replaced and replace the materials and see what we lost and going over our inventory list takes time away from projects where people are relying on us to provide those repairs so they can live in a safe and healthy home,” Morrison said.Β

The organization is now trying to raise $5,000Β  to make repairs to the windows, replace equipment and create an enclosure around their service vans to prevent another theft.Β

“Helping make us whole after this incident and helping to prevent any delays or losses like this in the future are just critical for the success of our services,” Morrison said.Β
