Clouds Build, Meager Rain Chances at Week’s End
Clouds and cooler air make a strong return by Wednesday.
After a stunning start to the workweek, Mother Nature is bringing grayer skies back to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Your Tuesday morning will begin on a sunny note, but clouds will build in throughout the day. Despite increasing clouds and northeasterly winds, highs should top out near normal in the 50s and 60s. The dreaded wedge sinks its teeth into the Carolinas on Wednesday. Expect overcast skies and highs struggling to clear the 50s across the board. A few sprinkles are possible during our Hump Day afternoon, especially to the south, but most communities will remain dry through midweek.
A moisture-laden rainmaking system continues to swirl through the northern Gulf of Mexico, bringing plenty of rain to our south. Rain chances will bump up slightly towards the back half of the week as it attempts to move northeastward, but most of the showers will be cut down by a high-pressure system that develops to our north. A separate cold front sweeps in from the northwest by Friday night; most of the rain associated with it gets hung up in the Appalachians. Unfortunately, while scattered showers are still in the realm of possibility toward the back half of the week, drought-busting rain is not likely. Sunshine and near-average temperatures return by the weekend.
