Tempestuous Tuesday Ahead
Drought-denting rain totals on the order of 1-3" are possible through Wednesday morning.
Who’s ready for some rain? After two months of bone-dry conditions, a welcome pattern change comes to the Carolinas on Tuesday. A powerful rainmaking system is digging through the Central Plains this Monday morning, bringing widespread heavy showers – and even a few storms – to our area by the second day of the workweek. Clouds will build today before rain chances spike overnight into Tuesday, which looks like a washout; plan your day accordingly. Rain totals will pile up between 1-3″ for most communities in the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. While this system will mainly pose a heavy rain threat, we’ll need to watch carefully for a few strong storms during the afternoon. Strong, gusty winds and even an isolated tornado to the southeast are still on the table.
Cold, dry air pours in behind the front on Wednesday. You’ll want to bundle up for a blustery evening as the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade marches through Uptown on Wednesday. Highs will drop from near 60Β° on Monday and Tuesday to the mid-50s around the Metro on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Thursday. Lows will plummet back into the 30s as we wake up for Turkey Day. A few more rain chances are possible toward the back half of the week, but next weekend looks sunny and cool in the 40s and 50s.
