Temperatures Bottom Out
Off-and-on snow showers will continue in the High Country through the afternoon.
Happy Hump Day! Although it’s not quite as cold as it was this time last week, there’s no doubt it’s feeling a lot like winter this morning. Lows currently reside in the 20s and 30s across our area, and temperatures will struggle to rebound against strong northwesterly flow. Off-and-on snow showers continue throughout the day in the High Country; highs won’t get out of the 30s. Just about everywhere else should crack 50°, but not by much. A stray rain shower is possible in the Metro later in the day, but most will remain dry. Abundant sunshine in the Piedmont and Foothills will carry through Thursday before more clouds arrive by the end of the workweek.
Despite the grayer skies, warm winds out of the southwest will fuel a temperature recovery back into the 60s around the Metro on Friday. We’ll be even warmer into the weekend ahead of a rainmaking system that arrives by Sunday. While the potential for severe weather largely stays out west in the Mid-South and Deep South, we’re right on the margins for thunderstorm activity in the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. For now, expect widespread shower activity to close out the weekend with a few rumbles of thunder. Rain totals look to total up to a half-inch to an inch across the Carolinas. Cooler and drier air filters in by the start of next week.
