Valdese Man Arrested For Trafficking Fentanyl

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (News Release) — On December 8, 2023, Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations/Narcotics Division was conducting a routine patrol in the Drexel community, after numerous citizen complaints about illegal activities in the area.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., investigators observed Reginald Allen Miller at the intersection of Drexel Road and Hwy 70 operating a motor vehicle. Once Miller noticed investigators, he turned onto Hwy 70 heading east and his driving became increasingly erratic, until after approximately half a mile, he turned abruptly onto Gurley Street without initiating a turn signal.

Investigators initiated contact with Miller as he exited the vehicle and approached a residence on Gurley Street. During the investigation, it was determined that Miller did not live at the residence which he had stopped, and the residents therein had no associations with him.

While on scene, obvious suspicion of narcotics was developed and a search of the vehicle and Miller was conducted. More than 4 grams of a powdery substance was recovered in his possession. The substance was wrapped in individual packaging and appeared to be for resale. The substance was field tested on scene and tested presumptively positive for Fentanyl.

Miller was subsequently arrested for Trafficking Sch II Control Substance/Opioids (Fentanyl) and was arraigned before the Burke County Magistrate where he received a $50,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was on December 11, 2023.
