CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Cam Newton stopped the interview before it got started.
Newton saw a fan filming the interview with her iPhone Denver Broncos cover facing toward him.
“Are you really aiming that at me,” Newton said with a smirk.
She thought she wasn’t allowed to film the interview.
“No, delete the case.”
Newton’s playful side was seen all afternoon at the 2nd Annual Kicking it with Cam Celebrity Kickball Tournament. Newton and a load of current teammates played at the kickball tournament all day long at Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Among the Panthers players in attendance: Kelvin Benjamin, Jonathan Stewart, Greg Olsen, Mike Tolbert. Some of the non-Panthers celebrities included Allen Iverson, Eddie George, Cody Zeller of the Hornets and Tim Tebow.
Former Panther Josh Norman made a cameo.
“You see a lot of guys out here having fun and playing kickball for a great cause,” Newton said. “It’s family oriented and a lot of unity out there. It’s fun to be around.”
There’s never a slow time of year for the league’s MVP. His new TV show, “All-In with Cam”, is airing on Nickelodeon and the team is in the middle of summer workouts at the Panthers facility. Organized team activities wrapped up on Thursday with the team’s mandatory mini-camp on the schedule for this upcoming week, Tuesday-thru-Thursday.
The kickball tournament is just one event in the Cam Newton Foundation Charity weekend. Newton will host a ‘Kids Rock Gala’ on Saturday night.
“Everyone matters, that’s our mantra,” Newton said. “In that we have three pinnacles. Everyone learns, everyone gives and everyone plays. And in that we create different curriculum and programs that allows kids to get up and get active.”
“We try to implement having the passion to help others.”
More behind the scenes footage from Cam Newton’s kickball tournament will air on Saturday’s edition of Got Game on WCCB at 10:35pm.
